JOIN US FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY BIRDING EXPERIENCE IN COSTA RICA

The Birding Experience started offering tours in the Monteverde region in 2016. We have relocated to San Vito, Puntarenas, where we collaborate with a local nonprofit organization called Finca Cántaros Environmental Association (fincacantaros.org) to offer one-of-a-kind birding tours. In addition to showing people incredible lifers of this southern region of Costa Rica, we describe the many environmental education projects of Finca Cántaros aimed at creating and protecting bird habitat. We conduct tours by donation, and all proceeds go to supporting community engagement in bird conservation.

Hi David--My wife Cathy and I birded with you for a day in June 2019 and had a great time! I'm thinking of returning with at least 1 friend, Leroy Yoder, and possibly one or two others this summer to celebrate my retirement and wondered if you had a week or so available in June, July or August? We're still at the very early stages of thinking about this but just wanted to check in and see if you are still guiding.

We asked David to do a morning bird tour with us on the 12 of October in Monteverde.
I'm very happy to have booked with him because he knows the area pretty well and besides birds he also taught us about trees and wildlife in the surroundings (Monteverde & Reserva Curi-Cancha).
We had the oportunity to observe the Quetzal (male bird) among the 34 different species of birds we counted in that morning.
David brought binoculars to everyone and was also available to take some pictures for us using his telescope (digiscoping).
Thank you David for sharing your time and knowledge with us. I wish you prosperity.

David is an excellent birdwatching guide and I enjoyed our half-day tour very much. He is very knowledgeable and experienced not only in birds but in showing other interesting sights of nature while on the tour. He was very helpful in getting photos of the birds we saw through his spotting scope. I recommend him without hesitation.

We were lucky to have David as our private wildlife guide for a half day bird watching tour in Monteverde in Feb. 2018. David was patient, passionate about his work, experienced in finding and identifying different bird species, and very much aware of environmental conversation. He was also a talented photographer. Under David's guidance, we saw flycatcher, white-fronted parrot, Euphonia, Black-breasted Wood Quail, Blue-crowned Montmot, Slate-throated Redstart, Wilson's Warbler, Baltmore, Oriole, BlueGray Tanager, Orange-bellied Trogon, Hoofman Woodpacker,, Emerld Tourcanet, etc and best of all, the famous Quetzal. David did not rush us at all and let us indulged ourselves in each sighting. David was also kind enough to walk at our own pace and took breaks as needed. We truly enjoyed this birding adventure with David. Thank you!

We scheduled a private guided bird watching tour at Curi-Cancha for Christmas Eve morning, 2017.

There was a miscommunication with the time, and we showed up at 8AM instead of 6:30AM and my heart immediately broke as this was an activity I had my heart set on. The staff at Curi-Cancha assured me that it would be ok, the guide had waited around!

We then went on a three hour magical tour of the birds of the Monteverde area. We learned so much, appreciated the patience David had while we took pictures, and were delighted at the various birds that we saw. Oh, if only we had been there at 6:30!!

Not only was David wonderful, intelligent, informative but his excitement was contagious. We saw a bi-colored juvenile hawk chasing brown jay and he was wildly thrilled which made us wildly thrilled and made it a holiday to remember! We ended up seeing 23 different species during the three hours, half of them being new to us!

If we ever make it back to Costa Rica, a tour with David will be at the top of our list and it will be one of the top activities we recommend to friends coming to the area.

Thank you so much for giving us such a memorable day and waiting for us to arrive. We will forever be grateful that our paths crossed.

David Rodriguez Arias expertly led our small group through the Curi-Cancha Reserve, Monteverde. From Trogans to Quetzals to Hummingbirds to Motmots and warblers - we saw a nice variety of birds including an Agouti and Two-toed Sloth. David was also great at taking our cell phones and shooting pictures for us through his scope. This guy knows his stuff and if you can get into his group your birding experience will be tremendous. And, what's cool about the guides is that they all share their finds with one another so even though the groups are spread out we can reroute ourselves to where the action is. Highly recommend David's guidance for your trip!

David is a really nice guy. We would recommend David as a guide to everyone.
